Welcome to my classroom website! My name is Laura Pausley. I am originally from upstate NY (Peru, NY). I attended the State University of New York at Potsdam, where I received my degree in Elementary Education as well as a degree in Sociology. I continued at SUNY Potsdam to complete my Masters degree in Reading. I taught in New York around the Albany area for 3 years before moving to North Carolina.
I have been teaching at Farmington Woods since moving here in 2005. I taught third grade for four years, then moved to fifth grade. This is my tenth year of teaching fifth grade! I love the curriculum in fifth grade. We teach so many interesting topics, especially in science!
My husband and I have two wonderful children, Maureen and Aidan. In my free time, I love being outdoors, whether I'm at the playground with my kids, working in the yard, or going for a walk. I also love reading and photography.
In my classroom, I have one rule that everyone who enters my room must follow...respect. Respect for me, respect for each other, and respect for the classroom itself. No one can work their hardest or be a risk-taker if they don't feel like they are respected. If you feel respected, you are able to ask questions and you understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
What an exciting year...I am honored to be the Teacher of the Year for Farmington Woods for the 20018 - 2019 school year, as well as our school being awarded the National Magnet School of Excellence award! Our school is wonderful and I am so proud to be a part of it! I am excited for this school year and all of the learning that will happen in our classroom!
